ABOUT BAR 36
Bar 36 is Astoria's most talked about new restaurant and lounge that offers mouth-watering food and unique decor, all at an attractive price. It is a prime example of positive gentrification in Queens and the gradual change of the culturally-rich Astoria neighborhood into a nightlife destination that competes with Manhattan’s SoHo and Williamsburg, Brooklyn. Bar 36 is the new must go “hot spot” for urbanites that want to get the most for their money with the least compromise.

Bar 36 takes pride in innovative space design, tasty fare and smart pricing. The restaurant is cleverly divided into two sections: the front is a martini lounge and back is a steakhouse restaurant. When waking into the doors the patrons are greeted with zebra wood, custom designed lighting and a bar water fountain that evokes the feeling of being across the East River. Further inside, Bar 36 transforms into a modern steakhouse, with candlelight ambiance, exposed brick, slate and green grass. Their outdoor garden is complete with comfy seating and a beautiful pear tree. The food served ranges from a mezze sampler and calamari to an espresso steak and pan roasted salmon.

IN THE HEART OF ASTORIA, QUEENS
Astoria, Queens is populated by the culturally diverse community that includes, but is not limited to Greek, Italian, Irish, Indian and Hispanic demographics. As a result Astoria is a home to a plethora of successful small businesses and an impressive array of ethnic food restaurants. Astoria has a lot of highly Zagat rated food establishments such as specialty shops, street stands and restaurants, many of which are rated as the best in NY. The competition between ethnic restaurants drives up the quality of services and food offered, while keeping the prices reasonable.

The area of Astoria and Long Island City will continue to develop in part due to its close proximity to Manhattan and the young working professionals who are looking for affordable housing. Quite rapidly, this area is making a transition that is not unlike the one Williamsburg recently underwent. More and more young people choose Astoria as a destination for a night out to take advantage of the cheaper prices and the feeling of distinctiveness, rather than the chain infested feeling one experiences in Manhattan.

Encouraged by the recent developments the owners or restaurants, bars and cafes are investing further in their businesses to successfully compete with the old hotspots in SoHo and Brooklyn Heights.

"I can't tell you enough how much my wife and I enjoyed this place. The decor is ultra modern and sleek. The drinks were great and moderately priced. The staff were also great and very attentive. Great place to socialize, will come again. " - citysearch blogger

"FINALLY SOMEONE GAVE 30th AVE WHAT IT NEEDS!!!!. Great place with beautiful decor. I have been there several times, NEVER had a bad experience. Good Service, the owners are the nicest guys possible. This is the first time ever walking into a place on 30th ave that I wasn't judged, eyed, or checked out by staff. I am a regular white male american, but oddly I felt uncomfortable on 30th avenue. This place really makes you feel welcome. Wonderful place for drinks, first dates, nightcaps, after work (Perfect), or just for the whole night. BTW I never had the food, when I do you can bet I will review it!" - citysearch surfer

"Oh, and Drill’s most recent bit is to watch for the opening of “Bar 36” on 30th Avenue around May 1. He says the wood inside will be really “cool” (his words!)" - Daily News blogger

"The inside looks really interesting and different from anything else in the neighborhood." - eater.com blogger

"I really hope people discover this gem and it stays in business. My friend just moved to town and we were trolling the hood. This place stood out. It's interior and design is fantastic. Everything is modern and cozy at the same time. The front bar area appears dead. As you go to the back however, you discover this sweet little candle lit patio with cushy seats and tiny tables. The whole place has a warm glow. The service was wonderful. Everyone is friendly and they actually give you new silver ware before each new course. I will be back and i will probably write an anonymous about improving the food a bit. Really thought having said all that - it's worth checking out. At the least as a night spot." yelo.com surfer

"Bar 36 is one of these new, sexy cafes. It's half bar/lounge, half restaurant. It's exactly what people wouldn't expect from a Queens establishment. Then again, have I ever positively written about a place that fulfills one's stereotypical expectations? Hardly. To do so would be a waste of time. Bar 36 is dark and modern and moody and sexy to its core. The large individual bathrooms, with their custom sinks, individual cloth hand towels, and large mirrors are just begging people to mile-high club it in them. The first time I'd been here, it was just for drinks, which just happens to be their specialty. The bartender I had, whose name I lost long ago whipped up a custom cocktail just from a concept that had been floating in my head. Then he gave it to me for free. It was incredible. All of the custom cocktails I've had here are. As for the food, Bar 36 describes itself in a way that alludes to some American-Mediterranean blend. A mix of Greek and Italian and Moroccan and American. But I'm calling it American. American with a twist, but American." -eateryrow.com blogger

"Bar-restaurant-cafe Bar 36 (36-05 30th Ave, Astoria, 718-715-4420) gets the big thumbs up with these words: "One of the best steaks I've had in ages." - eaterrow.com blogger

"Well, maybe their web site isn't great, but their FOOD is AMAZING. As are the drinks, service and atmosphere/design. It rivals any hip Manhattan spot, but with Astoria prices. Higher end Astoria, but still - the food is so good, you won't complain. It puts 718 to shame. Do not hesitate - go to Bar 36. Make sure it survives - it's a gem." - astorianyc.com blogger
